BMX/Moto Connection

At the Legends & Heroes display at both the Anaheim 1 and San Diego rounds, there was a solid selection of old-school MX bikes, which is their stock in trade. But there was also quite a batch of old-school BMX bikes, many of which had a moto connection. Here are a few of our favorites.

Forums Added

I may regret it, or it may turn out to be something interesting. Yep, I’ve added a forum here. You can find the link in the top nav bar, or hit https://guybmoto.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=1

Since it’s in its infancy, there are still some buttons to push and levers to pull to smooth out the look and feel, but for now you can find forums for…

What else should we add? What changes should we make?

Brushes With Greatness: Sammy Hagar and Eddie Van Halen

I (along with a couple of my Mountain Biking magazine coworkers) did an interview with Sammy at his house in Malibu back in the 80s. He had a private label line of mountain bikes called Red Rockers, which were made by Gary Fisher.

At the end of the interview, I asked Sammy if we could shoot some photos of him in his backyard with his red electric acoustic. His reply? “Nah… how about if we have Eddie do it?”

He sticks his fingers in his mouth, whistles loudly, and the widow pops open a couple houses down from him. Eddie sticks his head out of the window, and Sammy yells, “Come help us shoot some photos.” Eddie pops out of the house, comes across the two hedges (the neighbor in-between had installed gates because they were going back and forth so often). He grabs Sammy’s guitar, retunes it, then proceeds to go off…while I’m shooting photos with my jaw hanging.

That was about as cool as it gets. I just regret that it was in the days before cell phone video.

Wood Carving

After retirement Rick took up wood carving. He’s had a great deal of fun developing his skill at this and has won a number of awards for his work. Here are some of the projects he has done.nnnn nn

Welcome

All our lives we had dreamed of traveling and exploring the side roads of this wonderful country when we retired. And our dream came true! We continue to reinvent ourselves as we go along…nndroppedImage-levelednnAfter 33 years Rick retired from the Flood Control department in Riverside county. After retirement he discovered that he had an talent for wood carving. Boy oh boy….a hobby that could go on the road with us!nnJudy had been an RN working in post surgical units and surgical intensive care for many years. And that was followed by a career in photography. Pretty cool to have two careers…and to love each one so much.nnThe big house was sold and a much smaller place bought. The ‘rig’ is an old Bounder that Rick remodeled to fit us like a glove. We still kick around the idea of going on the road full time. But the truth is we live in one of the nicest snowbird communities in the west so 6 months on the road and 6 months there seems the best of both worlds.nnIf you’d like to come along for the adventure just click the blog button at the top and off we go!nnWarm regards….Judy and Rick
