I didn't shoot a lot of music stuff, but both of the photos below were pretty memorable shoots.
The Black Flag shoot was at a small club in Long Beach whose name eludes me. Watching some skinhead bouncers chopping up coke with a credit card on a Domino's pizza box top before the show was....interesting.
Black Flag was fun to shoot. All the intensity you'd expect. Henry was just wearing the Dolphin shorts and no shoes. I walked past him as he leaned up against a wall at the end of the show. He was still breathing heavily and looked a bit like a wild animal.
The Iron Maiden show was something entirely different. I'd been shooting some freestyle stuff in Pacific Beach in the morning before the show and ate at a Mexican restaurant for lunch. On the way back north to the Long Beach Arena, I knew I was in trouble. I got sick on the way, got sick under some grandstands shortly after I got backstage, and waited it out until Twisted Sister was done playing so I could go set up. Before they hit the stage I went out and tanked up with water and was actually feeling pretty good when Iron Maiden hit the stage. We could only shoot the first three songs, and the last three. But about halfway through the first song, I knew I was in trouble again. I crawled under the stage while they were playing, and got sick again. Not fun at all.
