As Honda's original dedicated motocross machine, the 1973 CR250M Elsinore found instant success on the track. Gary Jones won the opening AMA Motocross National of the season aboard a factory version (hence the "RC" moniker) and went on to win Honda's first MX title. This was just the beginning of Honda's success in motocross.
